Things To Do in Australia During The Summer

The summer is an exciting time in the land down under. Australia is host to a plethora of activities locals and tourists can get involved with. You have the option to sip cocktails in unique and funky bars while exploring the Outback on a horseback or by a four-wheel drive—all in the same day. Due to the country’s large size, even some of the locals become disoriented when it comes to all that is available to do, so it is quite understandable for those traveling to the country to feel a bit overwhelmed. Let’s take a look at some of the best things you can do in Australia in the event that you are visiting for the summer.

Horseback Riding in the Snowy Mountains

The Snowy Wilderness is a privately owned haven for wild horses, also known as “Brumbies.” It is located in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. They have remained a constant even years after their generations-ago sires and mares played a part in the colonials who takes the land claims. Now, even if you’re a gifted horseman, you are not allowed to ride a brumby. However, you are given the opportunity to observe these creatures from the saddle of a mountain-fit stock horse through a guided tour along the 3,000-hectare property.

Dirt Bike Through The Wilderness

Cape York is still one of the largest wilderness areas remaining in the world and is also one of the most remote and challenging to access in Australia. If you are feeling adventurous, Cape York Motorcycle Adventures offers a variety of two-to-ten day trips through the remote region. The prices available include the motorbikes, food and your camping accommodations. According to the director, Roy Kundra, “We’ll get into the real Cape York, ducking and weaving through ant hills and all the low-lying areas through the coast. It’s a lot more exciting than seeing it from the back of a bus or four-wheel drive.”

Swim At A Fake Beach

One of the best things about Queensland is its beaches. However, that is not the case for the state capital of Brisbane which is set on a flood plain and braces the banks of the caramel-colored Brisbane River. That shouldn’t deter you, however, because you can still enjoy South Bank’s Streets Beach which is an artificial lagoon-style swimming pool that comes with white sandy beaches, bubbling creeks, and a shady tropical garden. Entrance is free, and it is a great way to escape the immense summer heat in Brisbane and has a variety of markets and museums you can check out.
